Top 5 things to do in London this autumn

05/10/2021

With summer slowly fading in London, you may start longing for those warm summer days to return. The silver lining, however, is that autumn is one of the best times of the year in the city!

As the winter chill starts to creep in, head to the pub for cosy fires, autumn colours and new adventures around the city. Now, go and put on some warm clothes and experience one of our top five things to do in London this autumn.

1. Take a spin around the Natural History Museum’s ice rink one last time

After 16 years of fun, this winter will be The Natural History Museum’s last ever ice skating season, so don’t miss out on the rink’s magic this year. This beautiful space is one of the best autumn experiences London has to offer. So grab a friend, some skates and a pair of warm gloves and prepare for one last glide! The ice rink is open from October 22, 2021, to January 16, 2022.

2. Take a walk through Kew Gardens

Believe us, you don’t want to miss Kew Gardens in all its autumnal glory. The beautiful botanical garden becomes a fiery array of reds, oranges and yellows while showing off all the wonderful flora and fauna it has to offer. Take a walk or run through the gorgeous grounds, and if the weather is nice, we recommend packing for a picnic.

3. Sunday roasts are back!

There is nothing better in cool weather than a hearty, Sunday roast. Grab your mates and treat yourself to a delicious end-of-the-week feast. From fluffy potatoes to stuffing, gravy and of course Yorkshire pudding, you will be salivating before you even sit down. One of our top picks for a traditional and affordable Sunday roast is The Crown and Anchor in Brixton. It is a gorgeous pub with a modern twist that serves a good old, simple roast dinner at a seriously affordable price.

4. Explore London’s museums

A cold, rainy autumn day is the perfect opportunity to explore all the incredible museums London has to offer.  From the Natural History Museum to the Tate Modern and the Imperial War Museum, the list goes on and on. Take your pick and spend the afternoon admiring one of these incredible spaces, or, make a day out of it and visit multiple. This may feel like a touristy thing to do, but it is the perfect time to learn a bit more about London’s history while also making the most of a chilly day in the city.

5. ‘’Remember remember the 5th of November’’

On the 5th of November each year, the UK comes together to remember the infamous Guy Fawkes with an incredible firework show, which is known as Bonfire Night. Almost every outdoor space and park in London becomes a backdrop for the mesmerising colourful display. Our top pick for where to watch the show is Battersea Park, but you cannot go wrong with any outdoor space such as Crystal Palace Park, Wembley Park, Victoria Park or Alexandra Palace.
