5 best places to live in South London

12/08/2021

Over recent years, South London has become one of the most up-and-coming places for young working professionals to live. With its generous array of parks, cafes, restaurants and nightlife, these areas below are highly recommended by us to check out if you are looking for a new place to rent.

1. Brixton

Brixton has slowly but surely become one of London’s most budding areas. It has attracted a scene full of up-and-coming artists and musicians, which adds to its vibrant nightlife. Brixton is located along the Victoria line and therefore has great transport connections to Central and North London. There is always something fun going on and this is due to the fact that there is a plethora of cafes, bars, markets and cool new places to try out with your mates.

The local’s favourite: The Brewdog Brixton – This fun spot has mouthwatering burgers, great craft beers and a jam-packed events schedule.

2. Clapham

Clapham is one of London’s most loved areas for renters. This could be due to the 200+ acre Clapham Common, its bustling high street, beautiful Victorian style buildings or the vibey restaurants and bars scattered throughout the area. Clapham also has convenient transport links like Clapham Junction Station and the Northern Line, which make it easy to access from Central London. People from all walks of life find themselves in this beautiful area of South London, making it an interesting place to settle.

The local’s favourite: The Little Orange Door – This bar was started by a group of flat mates who tried to create a space which emulates the ‘perfect house party’. There are many cozy corners for relaxing, as well as tables which are meant to be danced on and usually are by the end of the night.

3. Balham

Balham is a newly popular spot between Tooting and Clapham, for young working professionals to move to. It not only has great outdoor spaces such as the Clapham, Tooting and Wandsworth commons, but it also has a bustling food and bar scene. With the variety of available restaurants, you will never get bored, from Thai to French to Jamaican to Italian, take your pick and you will find a great restaurant serving that cuisine in Balham. Balham also has great transport routes, through buses, the Overground and the Underground, making it a very convenient place for working professionals to live.

The local’s favourite: The Exhibit – From boozy brunches to movie screenings, karaoke nights, private rooms for events, alfresco dining, it really is the best option for every occasion.

4. Wandsworth

Wandsworth is most loved for its greenery, you can take your pick between Battersea Park, Wandsworth or the Tooting Common, to name a few. It is also a convenient place to live with well-connected transport links on its doorstep such as Wandsworth Town and Clapham Junction Stations. There are also great restaurants and bars in the borough, whether you are a foodie or looking for something greasy on a Saturday morning, there is a spot for you.

The Local’s Favourite: The Althorp – It sits in the heart of Wandsworth and is the perfect place to go for a casual, fun dinner and drinks. But don’t be fooled, this isn’t only a nighttime hotspot, this festive location is also a must for a brunch or lunch.

5. Battersea

Battersea sits on the south bank of the River Thames and is another great option if you are looking for a quieter, more nature-filled area of South London to rent in. Battersea is near to Chelsea and is therefore close to many fun and vibrant restaurants, bars and cafes. It also sits on the much anticipated Northern Line extension, allowing easy access to and from central London from November 2021.  If open space and greenery is high on your list of priorities, we recommend this animated part of London for you.

The local’s favourite: Vagabond – this location has both unbelievable wines, as well as great tapas. Either settle down in the wine bar or if you are in the mood to be outside, find a cozy spot on the fairy-light-filled terrace.
