Putney Area Guide

About the Area

Take a punt on Putney — a happy valley next to the Thames with boutiques, boathouses and beautiful river views. Steeped in history, Putney is one of south-west London’s most elegant enclaves.

This one-time riverside village has long since been swallowed-up by London proper, but the legacy of leafy lanes and vast Victorian homes lives on.

Putney High Street pulls no punches — it’s a bustling thoroughfare which has come on leaps and bounds in recent times. Lost & Co is a fun venue for wood-fired pizza, cocktails and late-night DJ sessions. Putney Pies — located in a gorgeous vaulted basement — is a true one a kind, serving traditional ales, pucker pies and seriously good gravy.

But it’s down by the Thames where Putney really comes into its own. Putney Embankment is a gorgeous riverside walk featuring rowing clubs and blue plaques aplenty on the way to Barnes. Picture the scene: a glass of wine by the Thames, the moon shining on the water… it might sound like a Hollywood romance, but for Putney locals this is just a normal Tuesday!

Elsewhere, Putney Heath and Putney Village are prime picnic territory, and with two tube stops and a mainline station, relocate to SW15 and you’re literally going places.
