Chiswick

Village-like, prosperous, suburban

If there were an english version of Desperate Housewives it would probably be set in Chiswick. It's so safe and affluent that it's edginess factor is near-zero - not necessarily a bad thing.

It has one of the great high streets around London, with all the pubs, shops, cafes, boutiques, and bars you could want or need. And Chiswick House, a branch of the Soho House members' club is here, too. Rowing is very popular in Chiswick and several boat clubs are in town.

Good to know: Some past Chiswick residents of fame or notoriety include the impresssionist painter Camille Pissaro, English painter William Hogarth, the actress Helen Mirren, and Bruce Dickenson (lead singer for Iron Maiden).
